Momus and John Henriksson – Gibbous Moon

From the album ‘Thunderclown‘ (2011).

Lyrics

Why not believe Christianity
If it helps you through the day?
It’s useless as a crucifix
Brandished in a vampire’s face

This world is lugubrious
Aghast beneath a gibbous moon
Waxing and waning with the death of all feeling
But we will be free soon

This ending is so curious
To fry in a dying sun
Alive and crying and gnashing teeth
Thy nothing will be done

Adrift in triviality
Intoxicated yet becalmed
The world longs for a better life
But not for now, and not from him

Dismissed summarily
With a gesture of the hand
I have become the thunderclown
And so alone I stand

The thunderclown is Heraclitus
Weeping over the obscure
Dressed in his dark colours
Misunderstood and pure

And the moon wanes gibbous
And my face has grown hideous
And on the raft, the great lovecraft
The noise has grown ridiculous

Do not listen to the eldritch one
The elders tell the young
Do not listen to the thunderclown
Because of what he’s done

The places he’s been my dear
The things we always fear
Just keep calm and carry on
By twilight he’ll be gone

Just keep calm and carry on
By twilight he’ll be gone

Just keep calm and carry on
By twilight he’ll be gone
