Momus -
"Ping Pong"

[ Released on Satyricon Records - 724384517823 - 1997 ]

MOMUS SAYS:  It's 1997. Sony's PlayStation dominates the console world. Momus returns to London, where a new generation of pop groups - Jack, Orlando, Belle and Sebastian - are drawing inspiration from his work. He releases Ping Pong, his 'new concept in electronic song systems'. Snap one of the characters (supplied) into the neat handheld console and enjoy many hours of gaming fun in role. Who will you be today?

PHESPIRIT SAYS:  Momus clears away the stylistic mishmash of the previous compilation releases by inventing a new genre for himself and the world: 'Futuristic Vaudeville'. Several articles are posted on the Momus web site to explain the philosophy behind the 'comedy cabaret' genre but Phespirit likes to see it as a spoiled child of the two 1992 albums, The Ultraconformist and Voyager, blended and updated for 1997. Whatever the truth, this album is much more than the sum of its parts ..... it is probably the most perfectly formed of all Momus recordings.
