Maltese Division II Season 1998/1999
Qormi F.C. 2 - 2 Zebbug Rangers     29.11.1998

The Times of Malta

Qormi FC: Black and White striped shirts, white shorts, white socks.
Zebbug Rangers: Yellow shirts, green shorts, yellow socks.

This was a very exciting derby which produced four goals, a missed penalty and three players sent off by referee Ingmar Spiteri.

The first half was a pleasant affair with Zebbug going close early on as Charles Agius' header was saved by Attard, the latter again doing well in the 24th minute off an effort from Zerafa.

Qormi's reply produced a shot by Baldacchino which was splendidly saved by Pace, the latter again being the protagonist in the 31st minute when he stopped Scicluna's volley. Just before the interval Rangers' striker Nigel Zerafa was dismissed following a second yellow card.

Two minutes into the second period Zebbug were given a penalty for a foul by Chris Montfort on Charles Agius which had the Qormi defender being shown the red card while Agius duly converted from the spot-kick. Qormi's reaction produced various efforts and in the 65th minute they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Anthony Brigone but the latter hit wide from the spot.

In the 70th minute Zebbug made it 2-0 through an own goal by Fabian Cutajar from an Ivan Zammit corner but seven minutes from time Qormi pulled one back through a shot by Steve Baldacchino.

Qormi were then reduced to ten players [ shurely 'nine' players - Phespirit ] after Johan Scicluna was given marching orders. However, Scicluna's dismissal did not prevent Qormi from stepping up their efforts in their bid to take a point from this derby. Three minutes from time they gained their second penalty for a foul by Jonathan Zammit on Cutajar and this time Clyde Grech made no mistake from the eleven metres.
