Phespirit goes to Bulgaria
Nesebâr     May/June 2001

POST-COMMUNIST SLIVEN

The roads into Sliven are bordered by row upon row of mustard and cream coloured concrete tower blocks. These eventually give way to plain concrete tower blocks, invariably in some state of disrepair.

The factories are run down and rusty.

Poor Sliven.

THE RING ON THE BLUE ROCKS

As Phespirit rides the chairlift up the Blue Rocks near Sliven, observe the Ring.

It is said that any girl passing through this arch of stone will become a boy - and vice versa - so presumably one could enjoy the best of both worlds by making a return trip.

Phespirit offers no proof.

THAT IS SLIVEN DOWN THERE

Sliven looks much nicer from atop the Blue Rocks than it does close up.

NOTE: In the interests of good taste, Phespirit excludes his feet from this photograph.
