Phespirit goes to Bulgaria
Nesebâr     May/June 2001

ZHERAVNA VILLAGE

Phespirit can testify from observation that it takes a minimum of three fit men to push a little old lady up these cobbled inclines in a wheelchair.

The concealed Church of Sveti Nikolai lies just around the corner, off to the right, then up a bit further. It is on your left.

SOZOPOL EXTREMITY

Here are some rocks at the tip of the small peninsula upon which Sozopol is built.

The Bulgarian Navy is mercifully out of this picture, moored around the other side. The presence of military gunboats seems quite inappropriate in this idyllic environment.

THE BLACK SEA AT BURGAS

Phespirit stands on the Burgas pleasure pier. Behind him is the municipal beach and the vomiting oil refinery.

The Black Sea really is black at Burgas. Oil washes down into the vanilla sand like a filthy ripple ice cream, yet such manifest pollution does not deter the local children from diving in and swimming around.
