Going for a walk around Poiana Braşov - Line II

Going for a walk around Poiana Braşov - Line II - Map

A good walk on well maintained tracks with few significant gradients   [approx. 10-11km]

  1. Hotel Alpin stands on a small hill next to the bus and coach park at the centre of Poiana Braşov. Phespirit stayed at this hotel and used it as his start and finish line.

  2. Not far out of Poiana Braşov, setting out along on a trail of white squares with red crosses before changing to blue triangles, there is a high rock wall in a small clearing. Here Phespirit passed by a man smashing open rocks with a heavy lump hammer while other men threw more rocks down for him to work on.

  3. Leaving the trail of blue triangles in favour of yellow vertical lines, the tree-lined track passes by a small natural spring. Phespirit found a mess of sand, silt and puddles created by heavy overnight rain had made this a sticky area to traverse, but the fresh clawprint of a bear honed his alertness.

  4. The yellow lines lead to an area known as Pietrele lui Solomon (Solomon's Rocks), where a river cuts through a steep gorge and passes through clearings used for barbeques and picnics. Again, Phespirit witnessed men hitting rocks with hammers.

  5. Beyond Pietrele lui Solomon there is a road and some houses indicating that this is the fringe of civilisation. A number 19 bus runs from here to Braşov every hour on the half hour in the daytime, with additional runs every hour on the hour around noon.

  6. A trail of red vertical lines rises gently on a wide gritted path all the way back into Poiana Braşov, touching the main road from Braşov town at this point. Very easy going.
