When German Prince Karl of Hohenzollern was chosen to be King Carol I of Romania, Peleş Castle was built at Sinaia .....

• 1873-1883: first floor built;
• 1896-1914: second floor built;
• 1947: King Mihai abdicated into exile;

..... and now it is a beautiful museum.

Ceauşescu may be long dead but building work on his megalomaniac fantasy palace continues. It is an extraordinary legacy.
