Phespirit goes to Estonia

Phespirit stayed at the Vana Wiru hotel, ideally located within the old town walls; modern, spotlessly clean with Turkish and Finnish saunas and scrambled eggs for breakfast, and not fifty yards from the Peking Chinese restaurant on Müürivahe.

Surely the best three stars in town.

2 Tartu

Phespirit visited Tartu on a Monday when most public buildings in Estonia are closed. Consequently he was limited to visiting .....

• The Art Museum of Tartu University, with its odd collection of plaster reproductions cast from Greek/Roman statues;

• The Botanical Gardens, with its towering hothouse of giant palms and bananas incongruously set amid ice and snow;

..... and dining heartily at La Dolce Vita Italia Pizza on Gildi.

Plus, generally wandering around in the snow, looking.
