CAVE KAMIKAZE

Three so-called 'Kamikaze Caves' are to be found near Sok Kwu Wan on the end of the footpath that leads across Lamma Island.

During the second world war, the Japanese army forced the locals to dig caves for their "suicide attack boats" and then killed them to ensure secrecy ..... so the story goes.

TIAN TAN BUDDHA

This Big Buddha sits on Muk Yu Hill by the Po Lin Monastery at Ngong Ping on Lantau Island, Hong Kong.

At 26.4m in height, or 33.95m including the base (area 3284m²), it is the largest bronze outdoor seated Buddha in the world.

And there are 260 steps leading up to it.

Hong Kong, China: Tian Tan Buddha (Lantau Island).

THE PATH TO DISCOVERY

It takes at least two hours to walk from Mui Wo to Discovery Bay on Lantau Island. The headland trails are steep, winding and hot.

This is the ferry pier, the town and beach of Mui Wo as seen from a point about halfway up the first (and steepest) hill.
