Phespirit goes to Thailand
Bangkok April 2003
WAT PHRA SI SANPHET, AYUTTHAYA
Ayutthaya served as the capital of Thailand for 417 years from 1350AD to 1767AD, and now serves as a World Heritage site.
The area around these ruins has served as:
- a royal palace;
- a monastic temple;
- pagodas (chedis) for royal remains;
- a royal chapel and halls of worship.
GOOD HEAD
This is just the type of thing that any visitor would hope to find in the overgrown ruins of an abandoned Asian capital:
A fallen Buddha's head within a living tree.
FROM AYUTTHAYA TO BANGKOK
Phespirit relaxes at the prow of a slow boat from the previous to the present capital city of Thailand.
Three hours along the River Chao Phraya in an air-conditioned boat that serves food .....
There are worse ways to pass the time.
