BANJUL ELEPHANT

On July 22nd, 1994, Lt. Yahya Jammeh led a successful military coup for the control of Gambia. Today he is President Jammeh.

To mark his triumph (and create a focus for patriotic pride) he commissioned 'Arch 22'.

Now, next to this US$1.15million folly, a sign reads:
"You know he is our man"
"Vote for Yahya"

SERRAKUNDA STREET LIFE

Whilst the capital city of Gambia is Banjul, the largest town is nearby Serrakunda.

Here is one of the main roads, Sayerr Jobe Avenue. Serrakunda market is on the left.

So this is metropolis, West African style.

DON'T TOUCH THAT 'DILE

Katchikali Sacred Crocodile Pool is a place where crocodiles may be touched .....

..... but not this one, it says.

Best wait for supervision.
