This castle-like construction was the home and studio of artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela.

Now it is a museum dedicated to his work.

A wonderful fantasy retreat.

Don't misunderstand: Finland is not awash with castles all over the place. It's just that Phespirit happened to visit a few nice ones while he was there .....

..... like Häme Castle in Hämeenlinna.

A CASTLE AT TURKU

This is the oldest and best: the magnificent Turku Castle, founded in 1280 at the mouth of the Aurajoki in Turku, which itself is both the oldest city and first capital of Finland.

Historic stuff.
