THE CITY OF DAMASCUS Modern day Damascus is a far cry from the dusty desert city of popular imagination: all mudbricks and Roman stone, narrow alleys and traders with donkeys. Nowadays it is huge. This is just one small section of it as seen from Mount Qassioun.
THE CITY OF HAMA Pictures of Hama will usually feature one or more of the 'norias' - giant waterwheels - on the Orontes River. Phespirit's photograph sticks with tradition. These are the Four Norias of Bichriyat.
THE CITY OF ALEPPO The dominant feature at the heart of Aleppo is its citadel. This is its entrance gateway. As impressive as it appears on the ground, the citadel looks even more imposing when seen from the air - an all-conquering oval of impregnable fortifications elevated above an urban sprawl that extends far and wide.
