In 1924, Liechtenstein handed over responsibility for protecting its frontiers entirely to the Swiss. Consequently, there are no border controls to be negotiated when crossing the River Rhine between Liechtenstein and Switzerland, and there are solely Swiss border controls separating Liechtenstein and Austria.

Therefore, any visitors desirous of a Liechtenstein passport stamp must go to the tourist information centre in Vaduz and specifically request one.
