Phespirit goes to Croatia
Korčula     September 2005

THE PEARL OF THE ADRIATIC

This, of course, is Dubrovnik.

The National Geographic Endeavour can be seen anchored off shore. Phespirit saw it in Montenegro nine days earlier, moored up in the port of Kotor. It was apparently docked alongside the walls of Korčula the previous evening, but Phespirit missed it. Oh well.

CLOSE TO THE EDGE

Phespirit musters a cheesy grin at Mincela Fortress on Dubrovnik's city walls.

He never would have worn this bright yellow T-shirt if he'd known it would clash so badly with the photo above.

FROM PERISTYLE TO VESTIBULE

The city of Split started life as a retirement home for the Roman Emperor Diocletian.

The shell of his palace remains at the heart of the modern metropolis.

This is the view from the palace's Peristyle (colonnaded square) to the Vestibule (main entrance hall to imperial quarters).
