Phespirit goes to Sweden
Stockholm     April 2006

GAMLA STAN STANDS

At the heart of Stockholm lies Gamla Stan.

This is the island of the old town, occupied or adjoined by all of the important buildings in the city.

Here it is, seen from the Stadshuset tower, the best place for paroramic photographs.

BREAKING THE ICE

Phespirit took a 10:30am Royal Canal Tour clockwise around the island of Djurgården.

It seems by chance he was on the first tour to pass through the canal since winter. The boat rumbled and groaned as it gashed and smashed a path through ice sheets thicker than these by the Kaknästornet TV tower.

SKANSEN STANCE

Skansen (at the western end of Djurgården) was opened in 1891, making it the first and oldest open-air museum in the world.

Traditional buildings and indigenous wildlife collected from all over Sweden are brought together in 300,000m2 of parkland. This bit is a part of the Oktorp Farmstead (1870s), featuring Phespirit and a Barnacle Goose.
