RELIGION IN RILA

The graceful 'Nativity of the Virgin Principal' church sits at the heart of Rila Monastery.

Its name may be cumbersome but, like the monastery as a whole, the actual church is elegant in design and proportion.

RIGHTEOUSNESS IN ROZHEN

Signposts around Rozhen Monastery forbid photography within the monastery walls, so what tiny chance Phespirit had of sneaking into heaven was sacrificed for this picture.

Still, at least he wasn't caught by the stern monk who allegedly dwells inside.

SERVICE IN SOFIA

The Church of Sveta Nedelya in Sofia holds a prayer service every Thursday morning for those afflicted by the evil eye and suchlike.

It's their most popular service of the week.
