Phespirit goes to Cyprus
Paphos     November 2006

BROKEN BREAKWATER

Many civilisations have left their mark here:
The Mycenaeans, Phoenicians, Assyrians, Egyptians, Persians, Ptolemaic Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, the Crusaders, Lusignans, Venetians, Ottomans, British

Paphos Castle is an Ottoman rebuild of the remnant of a Lusignan castle destroyed by the Venetians. The rocks in the foreground are what's left of an ancient breakwater.

TOMB 8

2km north around the coast from Paphos is the ancient rock-cut necropolis area known as the 'Tombs of the Kings' (a misnomer as no 'kings' were ever buried here).

'Tomb 8' reminded Phespirit of the rock-cut monolithic churches of Lalibela in Ethiopia. He really must go there some day .....

WHITE CLIFFS

Another 15km north around the coast (4km beyond Coral Bay) stand the White Cliffs.

Here Phespirit stands whitely before them.
