The construction of Angkor Wat was begun in 1113 and, except for a few later add-ons, the complex was completed by 1150.
Despite being over eight hundred years old, it has remained unsurpassed as the largest religious monument in the world.

Covering an area of nine square kilometres, Angkor Thom is an entire Khmer city.
It stands next to Angkor Wat, post-dating it by just a few decades.
These heads are part of the Bayon temple, located at the very heart of Angkor Thom.

The École Française d'Extrême-Orient took responsibility for preserving the monuments of Angkor, back in 1907.
Ta Prohm is the temple the École chose to leave in its "natural state" - partly collapsed and overgrown with jungle. A commendable decision on their part.
