Phespirit goes to Georgia
Tbilisi May/June 2008
MUCH IN A CITY
Tbilisi is a big city with treasures scattered all around. Here are a few of them together in a single view.
- Left side: Narikala Fortress walls
- Behind top-right of Narikala: Metekhi church
- Above Metekhi: Tsminda Sameba cathedral
- Centre middle: Mtkvari river
- Bottom right: Abanotubani sulphur baths
BEST IN SHOW
Tsminda Sameba (Holy Trinity) cathedral is in Phespirit's opinion quite simply the most magnificent modern-built Christian place of worship anywhere on the planet.
BACK IN THE DAY
Mtskheta was the capital of Georgia before Tbilisi. Here the churches are older, and as the age of holy objects increases, so does the degree of reverence afforded them.
Observe Svetitskhoveli cathedral - beneath which Christ's robe is said to be buried.
