Fuerteventura's bleak, barren, wind-ravaged landscape is capable of sustaining life even more sophisticated than tourists.

..... whilst on the higher ground at the back of Playa de Sotaventa, Phespirit feeds pine kernals to a Barbary Ground Squirrel.
This fellow was one of dozens that mobbed him for treats before thirstily lapping up the fresh water that he poured into a small rock hollow, and finishing with a nice dust bath.
