Off the beaten track, in the high mountains between Zanjan and Takht-e Soleiman, sits the little mudbrick village of Qal'eh Jug.
It's not some novelty heritage village. These are the proud homes of good, hard-working families.

Still with the mudbrick theme, Meybod has them a-plenty.
Narin Castle, in the heart of Meybod, is the oldest mudbrick construction in Iran. It can be dated back to the third millennium B.C.

As far as tourism goes, the small village of Abyaneh is definitely ON the beaten track.
The elderly population finds the presence of camera-wielding tourists intensely irksome. Sadly for them, it is the modern era's forfeit for accessible charm.
