Poitiers will suit anyone looking for a pleasant, pretty, quiet place to go for a few days' holiday with no particular urge to do anything much at all. There are no big hitters among the sights, just a nice assortment of the historic, religious, artistic and green.
Phespirit checked in at Le Memphis hotel, a modest little two-star establishment near the station. The decor is a peculiar mix of red and white patchwork quilting interspersed with Americana, but its cleanliness could not be faulted, nor could the modern furnishings nor the simple, achingly fresh breakfasts.
