phespirit.notes: London
THE LAMB AND FLAG
Parts of the Lamb and Flag date from 1623 making it one of the oldest pubs in London. It is still one of the best.
NOTE: it's the one in Covent Garden
Location: out of Leicester Square tube, turn up Long Acre, right into Garrick Street, left into Rose Street.
THE CRUSTING PIPE
Not a million miles from the Lamb and Flag but at least a couple of centuries younger.
Inside, observe that deep gutteral humming causes the pipes to resonate - tremendous entertainment in a sophisticated wine bar.
Location: from Covent Garden tube, up James Street to the Covered Market: it's in the lower level.
THE COAL HOLE
Heavy wood beams, dark furnishing, leaded light windows and a decorative fireplace set the tone for this pub on The Strand.
And for the beer cognoscenti: Adnams.
Location: from Charing Cross station, on The Strand, in the opposite direction to Trafalgar Square.
